The little Petrine of Grade 1 B enlightened us about – Always Follow the Campus Rules. Campus rules articulate a set of expected behaviors for our campus and classroom conduct. These are called ground rules. They can be set by the management, if for the entire campus, or the teachers or created by the students themselves, if for classroom. Ground rules should be established at the beginning of a course, and the teachers should explain the purpose they serve. It is important for the teachers and the management to remind students of these campus and classroom rules periodically, particularly if problems occur. Teachers should also be sure to hold students accountable to these rules, for example, by exacting a small penalty for infractions by factoring conduct during discussions into a participation grade for the course, or by pulling aside and talking to students whose conduct violates the agreed-upon rules. Rules are intended to protect you and to show our respect for one another. Follow the rules and excel in everything.
