World Red Cross Day

Grateful appreciation to the Petrines of Grade 10 B for highlighting us about Red Cross Society today, on ‘World Red Cross Day’.  The hallmarks of the Red Cross Society are protection of life, health, and human dignity. Respect for all human beings, non-discrimination based on nationality, caste, race, gender, religious beliefs, disability, class or political opinions, mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace among people are the trademarks of the Red Cross Society. Just like BSF is the first line of our country’s defense, so also the Red Cross Society is the first aid in every humanitarian crisis – both natural and human-made. Every Petrine who aspires to be civilized, educated and human, must accumulate these hallmarks and trademarks of the Red Cross Society. It all began with the vision of one individual human being – Henry Dunant who just cared for human beings – both friends and enemies alike. During the Battle of Solferino in 1859, he saw the sufferings of the wounded soldiers on both sides – the allied French Army and the Austrian Army. He rushed to care for the wounded soldiers. He lobbied political leaders to take care of war victims and to initiate military medical services. Vision of one individual matters.
